Facebook Mobile App for Feature Phones Unveiled

Facebook Mobile App for Feature Phones Unveiled

Avail free data access for trying the app from select operations

As of now, the Facebook Mobile App is available only for Android, iOS and BlackBerry platforms. Considering the popularity and usage of the social network on the go, Facebook has partnered with Snaptu to introduce a new Facebook mobile app for more than 2,500 feature phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, Samsung and others. Facebook has also tied up with mobile operators from across the world to offer the app tryout without having to pay any data charges. This Facebook app apparently looks pretty much the same like the one on iOS, Android and BlackBerry platforms. When the app loads, you get to access your Facebook account news feed, messages, events, friends list, photos, requests, search and notifications. Of course the Facebook app won't be as fluid and responsive as the one for full blown touchscreen phones.

The app aims to offer a better experience going beyond the Facebook Lite version available specifically for the feature phones. Facebook has worked with mobile operators from around the world to let the users try out the app for free (without paying any data charges). So far, 14 mobile operators have agreed to offer the Facebook for feature phones app with free data access during the first 90 days after it is launched. Being launched today on m.fb.snaptu.com/f:
    • Dialog (Sri Lanka)
    • Life (Ukraine)
    • Play (Poland)
    • StarHub (Singapore)
    • STC (Saudi Arabia)
    • Three (Hong Kong)
    • Tunisiana (Tunisia)
    • Viva (Dominican Republic)
    • Vodafone (Romania)
    Coming soon on:
    • Mobilicity (Canada)
    • Reliance (India)
    • Telcel (Mexico)
    • TIM (Brazil)
    • Vivacom (Bulgaria)
Mobile subscribers with network providers not listed above won't be able to download and use this app. Reliance GSM and CDMA mobile subscribers in India would be able to use the Facebook for feature phones app with free data access for first 90 days once it is launched.
