How to easily add your app to your page on Facebook

You must be familiar with beautiful landing pages on Facebook. A lot of companies these days have set a default landing page for their Facebook like page that looks beautiful and in most of the cases, very interactive too. You can also create a Facebook landing page by creating a HTML page on a directory within a website and then embed it to a canvas on Facebook. You can then add the canvas to a fan page on Facebook where it appears as a separate tab. If you are a Facebook developer, you must have noticed that recently, the option for adding a canvas to a page on Facebook has disappeared. But don’t worry, there’s a neat little trick for adding a canvas to any Facebook page, even if the option for adding it is missing on the interface.

The option previously used to appear on the Canvas Settings page for an app. You could then add it to any of the pages you admin by going to View App profile page and then to “Add to my page”. But now, the option is completely missing. However, you can do it with a direct link

http://www.facebook.com/add.php?api_key=[your-app-ID]&pages=1

Facebook add app to pageYou can find your API key by opening the app settings from Facebook developers page. Replace the your-app-ID above with the app ID you just copied and follow the link. You will see options for adding the app or the canvas to your pages.
This enables you to add any app to a page you admin, even if the option isn’t available in the Facebook Developers section.

Facebook chat phishing attack impersonates Facebook security team

http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhaydon/5904883838/

A new phishing attack that's spreading through Facebook chat modifies hijacked accounts in order to impersonate the social network's security team.

The attackers replace the profile picture of compromised accounts with the Facebook logo and change their names to a variation of "Facebook Security" written with special Unicode characters, said Kaspersky Lab expert David Jacoby in a blog post.

Facebook claims that changing the profile name can take up to 24 hours and is subject to confirmation. However, in Jacoby's tests the change occurred almost instantly and required only the password. This was also confirmed by a victim whose profile name was modified within 5 minutes of their account being compromised, he said.

Beware! New Picture Worm Hits Facebook Today

From last few months, Facebook has been widely targeted for scam and spreading malware, One of the those spreading worm I discovered recently was when I was chatting with my friend, The following message from the sudden appeared.

hehehI!!! lool http://tinyurl.com/Wooo-2841-jpg
From the above screenshot, you can clearly see that tinyurl has been used to shorten the URL, One more thing to note is that it's not an image file as image files end with .JPG extension then -jpg.

The above screenshot describes a more clear picture of what you are going to download along with the JPG file. The exe is basically a Zeus Trojan, Zeus is one of the most popular botnets used for stealing sensitive information such as passwords, credit card numbers. One of it's popular feature is an Anti VM and Anti Sandbox capability, Making it useless for testing it inside virtual environments.

A scan at Virus total shows that only 3/18 URL scanners were able to detect it as a malware site, Rest of them failed.

Kindly spread the news by sharing it with your friends and people you know, So they should not fall for the malware.

How to tag a friend or a page on Facebook on mobile devices or with Javascript turned off

Its been long since Facebook let users tag their friends or like pages in status updates or comments. The feature first came to status updates and later on to comments as well. You can simply type the @ symbol and start typing the name of your friend and select one from the autocomplete. But this feature won’t work if you are using Facebook from a mobile browser that doesn’t support Javascript or if Javascript is turned off on your browser. But still, you can tag your friends using an alternate method.

You can tag your friends on browsers that don’t support Javascript as well. But to do this, you need to remember the profile ID of your Facebook friend. On the status update text box type the following:

@ [138558659573745:0]

Replace the number before “:0” with the profile ID of your friend. You can find the profile id of any of your friend by  copying it off their Facebook profile page. The Facebook profile page URL looks something like this:

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1742756183

But this trick doesn’t work for those who have already set their Facebook usernames. You can also use this trick for tagging Facebook fan pages.

How to find out everything that Facebook *really* knows about you

Max SchremsMax Schrems, a 24-year-old law student from Vienna, a meticulous document requester and researcher, is now sitting on a pile of 1,200 pages that comprise his personal-data Facebook dossier.

He secured the data by using a European requirement that entities with data about individuals make it available to those individuals if they request it.
After Mr. Schrems made the request, Facebook handed over a CD containing data that’s now fueling 22 complaints that the law student has filed against Facebook with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (according to Facebook, European users have a relationship with the Irish Facebook subsidiary).

Watch the following German TV news report (with English subtitles) which features Schrems:
The complaints, which Mr. Schrems began to file in August, concern the illegality of these charges (for the full set and PDFs of the filed complaints, go to Kim Cameron’s Identity Weblog):

* Pokes: Retained even after a user removes them.
* Shadow Profiles: Facebook is collecting data about people without their knowledge, using it to substitute existing profiles and to create profiles of non-users.
* Tags: Used without specific user consent. Users have to "untag" themselves (opt-out).
* Synchronizing: Facebook is gathering personal data - e.g., via its iPhone app or the "friend finder" - and using it without the consent of the data subjects.
* Deleted Postings: Postings that have been deleted showed up in the set of data Mr. Schrems received from Facebook.
* Postings on other Users' Pages: Users can't see the settings under which content is distributed that they post on other's pages.
* Messages: Messages, including Chat Messages, are stored by Facebook even after the user deletes them. This means that all direct communication on Facebook can never be deleted.
Facebook not deleting posts - complaint
According to the Europe vs. Facebook website, the complaints have brought about an audit of Facebook’s Irish headquarters, scheduled for the coming week.

"The Irish DPC will go into the premises of Facebook in Dublin and audit the Company for 4 to 5 days," according to the site. "We hope that this will bring more evidence for the complaints we filed before."
News of Schrems’ legal activities, along with demands for users’ own personal dossiers, went viral at the end of last month. Reddit users stampeded, swamping Facebook with requests for personal data after going through the Reddit submission’s four-step tutorial on how to do so.

Here are the steps on how you can request your personal data from Facebook:
1. Open this site: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=data_requests
Request your personal data from Facebook
2. Enter your personal information
3. Make a reference to the following law:
"Section 4 DPA + Art. 12 Directive 95/46/EG"
4. Click on "Send"
Facebook cried uncle, sending an email claiming that it could not comply with the requests within a 40-day period.

Europe Vs FacebookIn addition to filing the complaints, Mr. Schrems has worked to bring together a crowd of like-minded individuals with the Europe Vs. Facebook website, and setting up a YouTube channel.

Of course, a Facebook page, Europe vs. Facebook, has also been created. The page had 447 members as of this posting.

Remember how Mark Zuckerberg, in the early days of creating Facebook, called users dumb f*cks for trusting him with their private information?
After 7+ years of The Facebook bloating into a private-data behemoth (or boondoggle, depending on your attitude about privacy), one user has finally arisen from the land of dumb f*ckery to strip the label from his own online persona and instead paste it across the data-gobbling gut of Facebook itself.

How to Enable Facebook Timeline just in Few Seconds

Sone days back Facebook announced Timeline, a crazy (and kind of creepy) omnibus look at everything that has ever happened in your Facebook lifespan. It’s like a story book of your life — or at least the online, documented parts.

Facebook said that Timeline would be on the way for everyone sometime in the coming weeks… which is great and all, for everyone else. You’re the type of person who reads Borntohack, and are thus likely the type of person who likes their new and shiny things right now.

That’s okay. We can make it happen.

Fortunately, enabling Timeline a bit early isn’t too difficult — but it’s not at all straight forward, either.

You see, Facebook is enabling Timeline early for open graph developers. You, too, can be an open graph developer — even if you’re just looking to dabble.

A few things to note:

- You probably don’t want to do this unless you’re actually a developer. Expect bugs.
- Only you will see your timeline at first (unless you decide otherwise), but it will automatically go public after a few days. My timeline was automatically hard-set to go public on September 29th.
- It seems that if you login into Facebook on another machine, Timeline gets disabled automatically on all of your machines. With that said, it seems you can get back to your timeline (but ONLY after following the steps below) by navigating to http://www.facebook.com/YOURUSERNAMEHERE?sk=timeline
- You’ll need to have a “verified” account for one of the steps, which means you need a credit card or phone number attached to the account.
Here’s how to do it:

1. Log into Facebook

2. Enable developer mode, if you haven’t already. To do this, type “developer” into the Facebook search box, click the first result (it should be an app made by Facebook with a few hundred thousand users), and add the app.

3. Jump into the developer app (if Facebook doesn’t put you there automatically, it should be in your left-hand tool bar)

4. Create a new app (don’t worry — you

Integrate your FACEBOOK into YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNT_

1. Activate “Add any gadget by URL” in Gmail Labs — you’ll find it near the bottom of the list from settings.
2. Now go to Settings –> Gadgets. Here you’ll find a place to add Gadget URLs.
Add the Facebook Gadget. You can add Facebook to your Gmail. While Google has an official Facebook gadget, it doesn’t play nicely with Gmail, so i suggest using the app Ari Milner users: Facebook Gadget by iBruno. It will expand into the rest of your Gmail for easy Facebook management.

To add it, copy and paste this URL into Gmail’s Gadget settings
http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/104971404861070329537/facebook.xml
That’s it! Facebook is now in your gmail.enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, Facebook Will Never Demand Money from you to Get New Profiles

A completely untrue rumor that Facebook will soon start charging users is making the rounds yet again.
Ever since Facebook introduced Timeline profiles, several Facebook status updates have been spreading on the world’s social network that claim Facebook users will have to pay for the new profile changes.
Here’s one of the messages currently spreading on Facebook:
“THIS IS OFFICIAL… IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS… FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES… IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON, IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY!!”
And here’s yet another:
“FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP. $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES, $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFO…IT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES”
These rumors are simply untrue. “It’s free and always will be” is still in giant font on the Facebook homepage.

How to remove the Facebook Chat sidebar

Facebook recently rolled out a change that now displays your “chat” menu across the right side of your screen. While lots of folks like the change, many don’t. This very brief tutorial will show you how to ‘hide’ that menu and revert to the previous style.

Note: the Facebook Chat Sidebar/menu will re-appear when you initiate a chat with one of your friends on Facebook. Repeat steps #2 and 3 to hide it again. Keep an eye on FB Purity updates – I expect they will create a much more elegant approach to reverting to the previous Facebook Chat layout.
  1. The image below illustrates the ‘new’ Facebook Chat sidebar.
  2. To (temporarily) disable this sidebar, scroll to the bottom of your screen and locate the “cog” icon (see image below) and click it.
  3. Select Hide Sidebar from the list of options.
  4. Now your “Chat menu” will revert to its previous state – at the bottom of your screen in a much more unobtrusive location.
  5. That’s it, you’re done! Do remember – when you click the “chat” box now at the bottom of your screen, the entire Chat Sidebar will re-appear. This isn’t a permanent solution, it’s just one that will remove the Chat Sidebar for your general Facebook surfing.

How to automatically post Google+ updates to Facebook or Twitter

Most bloggers set their Facebook pages to automatically post updates from their blogs. There are lots of applications on Facebook that let you automatically post updates from your blog to Facebook. If you have become an ardent Google+ user, you might want to post your Google+ updates to Facebook and Twitter. This can be done with a combination of a couple of applications.

Facebook applications like RSS Graffiti, Sendible etc. let you push updates from your blog to Facebook pages or your profile page via the RSS feeds of your blog. Plusfeed is a tool that gives you the RSS feeds for any Google Plus profile. We had covered Plusfeed on Techattitude recently. Your feed URL will look like this: “http://plusfeed.appspot.com/1072221639248386151157″.

To post  updates to Facebook, go to RSS Graffitti application on Facebook and authorize it to publish updates to your profile. You will see the pages you admin on the left hand menu; select the page you want to post updates to. After authorizing, click on the Add Feed button and add the RSS feed URL of your Google Plus profile onto it. Preview the Feed and finally save it. You can change the settings for the feed like its source name, source URL, Feed style, post type etc. You can also add filters to the feed, schedule it and more.
Google Plus updates to Facebook or Twitter
To post Google Plus updates to Twitter, you can use the famous Twitterfeed application. Twitterfeed lets you post updates to Twitter through a feed URL. Sign up for an account on Twitterfeed. Go to the Twitterfeed dashboard and click on the “Create New Feed” button at the top right corner.  Now give a name for your Feed(Google Plus for instance) and enter the Google plus feed URL into the RSS feed URL box. Click on the Advanced Settings button to configure options for update frequency, post content and more.

Now go to Step 2 and select Twitter(You can use Twitterfeed to post updates to Facebook as well but it has lesser options and doesn’t post images either). You will need to authenticate your Twitter account. Once your account is authenticated, click on the Create Service Button. Now whenever you post anything to Google Plus, it will automatically be posted to your Twitter account as well.

Thus, using RSS Graffitti and Twitterfeed, you can easily post Google Plus updates to Twitter or Facebook.

Do Posting To Facebook From Google+ Account

This tutorial will walk you through the steps required to view your Facebook stream right from within Google+

For this feature to work, you’ll need to use either Google Chrome or Firefox as your web browser – though it doesn’t matter if you’re using Windows or OS X.
  1. The installation will be slightly different depending on which browser you’re using. I’ll outline both. If you’re using Firefox, skip down to step #6 below. If you’re using Chrome, keep reading.
  2. Start out by heading to this web site (link will open in a new window or tab). Click the Get Google+Facebook >> button.
  3. The ‘warning’ message will appear in the Extensions bar at the bottom of your browser. Click the Continue button.
  4. Click the Install button when prompted.
  5. Now that you’ve installed the Extension in Chrome, jump down to step #9 get it up and running.
  6. Firefox users – head over to this web site (link will open in a new window or tab). Click the Get Google+Facebook >> button. A ‘warning’ window will quickly pop up telling you that Firefox blocked the installation of the add-on. Click the Allow button in that ‘warning’ window (see image below).
  7. Now Firefox will prompt you to install the add-on. Click the Install Now button.
  8. Finally, click the Restart Now button to finish the installation.
  9. Head over to Google+ and sign in. You’ll now see a “Facebook” button in the navigation section (see image below). Click it.
  10. Click the Connect with Facebook button.
  11. Click the Allow button when prompted by Facebook.
  12. Now once you click that same “Facebook” button in your Google+ navigation section, your Facebook News feed will be displayed!
  13. You can even update your Facebook Status from within Google+ now. Click the What’s on your mind? box at the top of the page.
  14. Enter your status update and then click the Share button …
  15. … and your update will appear on Facebook.
  16. There are still some limitations to the features that this Extension/Add-On adds – for example, you can’t include image or other attachments to your Status Updates. Also, you can’t see or reply to any comments on your friends posts. You can click the link below their update, and be taken to it directly on Facebook itself, however. Have fun!
